Mazda Planning a 450-hp, Twin-Turbo Rotary
According to Motoring.com.au's source, the biggest news is that the 1.6-liter engine will be a hybrid turbo rotary engine. It will supposedly make at least 450 horsepower and use electric turbocharging to add power at low RPM while a conventional turbocharger would be used at higher RPM.
That could mean better fuel economy as well as more power. Combined with the use of weight-saving materials and a dual-clutch transmission, this driveline sounds like it would be fantastic.
Considering that this information is from an anonymous Mazda insider, it could easily turn out to be nothing more than wild speculation, but let's hope not. A 450-horsepower, twin-turbo rotary-powered Mazda sports coupe would be amazing.
